A governorship aspirant in Katsina State, Alhaji Abubakar Ismaila, and 31 other aspirants under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected indirect primary election as endorsed by the state chapter of the party for electing flag bearers for 2019 general elections.

Ismaila disclosed this at a press briefing on Friday in Katsina.

‘’We have rejected any process in electing the party’s flag bearers in Katsina State other than direct primaries.

‘’We have written to the party National Headquarters to intervene in this issue for the progress of our party.

‘’The state executive officers said that they took the decision to conduct indirect primaries at a stakeholders’ meeting.

‘’We were not involved, hence the need for the party to rescind the decision, because direct primaries is the best and most transparent for the state,’’ he said.

He further revealed that there is a pending case before court challenging the legitimacy of congresses conducted in the state.

‘’Since we are challenging the formation of the exco at wards, local governments and state levels, that means there are no delegates to conduct indirect primaries,’’ he said.

The state APC Chairman, Alhaji Shitu S. Shitu, had said that the decision to conduct indirect primaries was taken during the party’s stakeholders meeting.

He said that stakeholders had also endorsed the re-election bids of Gov. Aminu Masari and President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections. (NAN)
