Governor Murtala Nyako’s annointed candidate , Hon. Binta Masi Garba has emerged the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through consensus .
Garba -the first female State Chairman -a three time Federal House of Legislative member emerged after her two rivals in the contest Mr. P.P Elisha and Reverend Iliya Agowa voluntarily withdrew from the contest.
Before the position of Garba was endorsed as the state Chairman in the wake of the withdrawal of her rivals, a voice vote was conducted where members endorsed her election as stipulated by party constitution.
The Deputy Chairman of the party, Shuaibu Yamusa however emerged unopposed as he was the only person that contested the position.
Out of the 35 available positions only seven were keenly contested as the contestants for other positions were unopposed.
The position of the Vice Chairmanship North was keenly contested between Muhammad Abdullahi and Abdullahi Buba Digil which returned Muhammed Abdullahi as victorious with 173 votes against 110 votes scored by his rival.
Also the position of the vice chairman central was contested between Dimas Ezra and Adamu Magaji Jijiwa which produce Dimas Ezra as the winner of the contest with 288 votes against 156 votes scored by his rival.
The position of the state Secretary of the party was contested between Abdullahi Bakari and Alhaji Abdulrazak Namdas which produce Abdullahi Bakari as the winner with 849 votes against 413 votes scored by his rival.
The election was conducted without hitches as maximum security was deployed at the Lamido Cinema and environs.
During an interactive session with newsmen, the new chairman said democracy was at play as those who did not agree to consensus were given the chance to contest.
“The election ended successfully and I want to thank Governor Murtala Nyako and Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other delegates that came from far and near for their cooperation which led to the success of the congress,” Garba said.
She reiterated her commitment towards the entrenchment of the rule of law, promising to be fair and accommodate all and sundry.
She vowed to put a modality that will ensure that all aggrieved members who left the party are pacified to come back into its fold as the party is striving towards the betterment of all.
Garba used the opportunity to appeal to insurgents to release the captured female students of the Government Secondary School Chibok while calling on the Federal Government to intensify efforts aimed at releasing the captured students.
…Atiku hails historic emergence of woman APC Chairman
Former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) Atiku Abubakar has commended the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded congress of the APC in his native Adamawa State.
The former Vice President described as “historic and exemplary” the emergence of Hon. Binta Masi Garba as the first-ever female elected state party chairperson.
He expressed confidence in the ability of Hon. Binta to lead the party to total victory in all future elections in Adamawa state. He also congratulated all those who emerged in the process, adding “the party is assured of my total support until we win all our elections.”
The former Vice President and APC chieftain commended the Adamawa State Governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako and other leaders of the party for the high level of accommodation and the spirit of give-and-take that characterized the horse-trading leading to the emergence of the new state executive.
“All is well, that ends well,” the former Vice President enthused.
