The Federal Government Thursday inaugurated the reconstituted board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) urging the new board to as a matter of urgency ensure good corporate governance and efficient and judicious use of the corporation’s resources, while awaiting the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill into law.
Petroleum Minister, Dieziani Allison-Madueke who inaugurated the board and chaired its first meeting at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, also said that the current fuel queues noticed in some petrol stations across the country was artificial and that the corporation has between 40 to 45 days fuel sufficiency.
The Petroleum Minister however appealed to Petroleum marketers to cooperate with the Federal Government as the Federal Ministry of Finance was working round the clock to meet their demands adding that sustaining the strike action might jeopardize the coming Sallah celebrations.
Allison-Madueke told the new board members that they were carefully selected by President Goodluck Jonathan based on their pedigree, experience and integrity at this critical time of the nation’s history as it endeavors to progressively take the NNPC towards the goal of becoming a world class oil and gas company.
The new board, chaired by minister of petroleum resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, comprises the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance Alhaji Abdullahi Bukar, Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu and former head of service of the federation, Mr. Steven Oronsaye,
Also on the new board are Professor Olusegun Okunnu; NNPC’s Group Executive Director, finance and accounts, Mr. Bernard O.N. Otti, Group Executive Director, corporate services, Dr. Peter S. Nmadu and
Arc. Daniel Wadzani.
