‎Following Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s order that the State Human Rights Agency investigates the circumstances that led to the death of 38 year old Jamilu Abdullahi, who died in the custody of the Sokoto State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), six of the Corps’ personnel are now detained and being interrogated.

‎Although the state Commandant, Mr. Bello Musa denied the allegation by the deceased family of the involvement of his men in the killing of Abdullahi, he confirmed to news men on Saturday in his office that six of the men of NSCDC were being held and interrogated.

“I can confirm to you that six officers and men of the

Command who were as at the time of the arrest and detention of the deceased are now being detained at the headquarters. They include the Divisional Officer, the Cell Guard and four others,” he told news men.

Musa added that the Command had concluded its internal investigations and handed over its findings to the Sokoto State Director of Public Prosecution ‎for further necessary action.

He disclosed that the autopsy of the deceased had been carried out and his death certificate issued and that both were in the custody of the DPP.

The Commandant however said that if any or all of the detained officers were found ‎guilty of the alleged killing of the deceased, “they would be charged to the court for prosecution.”

The deceased family had posited that Abdullahi died as a result of injuries, which he allegedly sustained as a result of torture by men of NSCDC‎ attached to the Sokoto South local government division.
