President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said he received with sadness, news of the passing away of the very distinguished writer and former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Alhaji Abubakar Gimba.
Presidential Spokesman,Reuben Abati said on Friday “President Jonathan extends heartfelt condolences to Alhaji Gimba’s family, friends and associates as they mourn the literary icon who has left behind a legacy of notable works such as Witness to Tears, Sunset for a Mandarin, Trails of Sacrifice and Innocent Victims.
“The President believes that the late Gimba, who also had a successful career as an administrator, banker and public servant, will be long remembered for his humility, diligence, dedication to excellence and the profound understanding of human affairs exhibited in his writings”, the statement said.
President Jonathan urged members of Alhaji Gimba’s family, his fellow authors and all who mourn him to take solace in the knowledge that the much admired writer’s beliefs, views and insights will live forever through the body of works he has left behind for present and future generations.
He prayed that Almighty Allah will receive Alhaji Gimba’s soul and grant him peaceful eternal rest.
He died on Thursday in Minna.His burial occurred just about the time the late Gogo Yawa, younger sister of Mr Danlami Nmodu , the publisher of Newsidaryonline was also laid to rest at the cemetary in Minna.Gogo Yawa left behind her children, mother,sisters and brothers .
Several dignitaries attended the burial of Abubakar Gimba,Newsdiaryonline reporter observed.
