Finally, New Emir Of Kano Gets Staff Of Office

Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso on Saturday presented Staff of Office to the new Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, II, who was elected the 14th Fulani Emir of the famous commercial state.

The coronation ceremony was very colourful and full of excitement as the last time people of the state witnessed an event of such historical magnitude was in October 1963, when the immediate past Emir, late Alhaji Ado Bayero was coronated at Festival Stadium, Kofar Mata, in the heart of the city.

Presenting the Staff of Office at the Coronation Hall, which was specially constructed for the historic event at the Kano Government House, Kano, Gov. Kwankwaso said that “Emir Muhammad Sanusi’s appointment was guided by collective and careful judgment of his ability, credibility and capability to provide the required purposeful leadership to enhance the Emirate Council and the general wellbeing of our people”.

He added that the appointment was justified, considering the widespread acceptance from the Kano community adding that the move has also drawn great compliment from other spirited personalities from all walks of life.

Describing the new Emir as having sterling qualities, the governor added that he “is a highly knowledgeable person, a seasoned technocrat of International repute and an administrator per excellence. Above all, he is heir apparent of the throne who has distinguished himself as an outstanding religious scholar that is quite conversant with the dynamics of our time”.

While congratulating the monarch on his appointment, Gov. Kwankwaso urged the traditional institution in Kano to complement government’s efforts in hastening the pace of development of the state by constant sensitization and enlightenment of the citizens on governments’ policies and programmes.

The governor also solicited the cooperation of the traditional institution, to continue supporting government in the maintenance of public order and security, which include intelligence sharing and monitoring.

Responding, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II promised to discharge his duties in accordance with Emirate and State Constitutions, adding that he would adhere to his fore fathers steps with a view to providing better ruling.

The oath of allegiance was  administered  on the Emir by the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen and was witnessed by two former Head of states, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

Other personalities who attended the ceremony include Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwa, the governors of Rivers, Zamfara, Kwara Niger, Yobe, Kaduna, Borno and Edo states as well as renowned businessman, Alhajji Aliko Dangote and his maternal uncle and Patriarch of the Dantata family, Alhaji Aminu Dantata.

Also present at the occasion which was immediately followed by a mini durbar at the Emir’s palace were the Lamido of Adamawa, Shehu of Borno, Emirs of Zaria, Ringim, Bida, Katsina, Bauchi, Oba of Lagos, other Obas, Obis and Chiefs as well as APC Chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

In related development, Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar has officially commissioned the Coronation Hall which was built purposely built for the presentation of the Staff of Office.

It could be recalled that the 2012, the late Emir Ado Bayero, installed the new Emir Sunusi, then serving as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as Danmajen Kano, one of the well-regarded titles reserved only for Kano princes.
