Sokoto PDP :Protesting Deputy Governor Gets 1 Vote As Wali Wins Guber Primary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Sokoto state held at midnight Monday amidst allegations of irregularities.

Although one of the governorship aspirants, Barrister Mukhtari Shagari protested against the election being held alleging use of ‘illegal’ delegates, the election still held.

Shagari had ordered his supporters to vacate the Stadium, venue of the election when results were declared by the Chairman of the primary election committee, Sen. U. U. Dukku.

In the controversial results, Amb. Abdallah Wali was said to have scored 547 votes, Sen. Abubakar Gada, 193 votes and Mukhtari Shagari was given 1 vote.

Briefing news men, Shagari described the election as “outright illegality” and called on the National Secretariat of the party to cancel the primary election.

Meanwhile,Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state has said that the All Progressive Congress (APC)  delegates’ demonstration of political maturity was what led to the successful conduct of all party primaries in the state.

He called on party supporters to “continue to exhibit high sense of political decorum for the overall political growth of the state.”

“I am confident on the ability of the party candidates to provide the required leadership that will ensure rapid political growth of the state,” he added.

Assuring that the APC-led administration would continue to ensure that good democratic governance prevailed, Wamakko called on eligible voters to make sure that they acquired their voters card to enable them vote during the 2015 general election.

He called on supporters to shun all kinds of violence and thuggery to ensure peaceful conduct of electoral processes.
