Unknown gunmen unleashed heavy attacks on Adogo Police Station on Sunday in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attackers came from different directions of Okene, Ajaokuta, and one other route, apparently desirous of carting away Police arms,Force headquarters has said.The Policemen on duty, swiftly took positions and returned fire. The heavy dynamite launched by the attackers, demolished and set fire on part of the Station.
Force Spokesman ,Ag.CP Emmanuel Ojukwu said the desire of the hoodlums to cart away arms, was aborted, as the Police successfully evacuated the arms from the Station, to safety. As at the time of this report, no human casualty was recorded on the part of Police, while some of hoodlums, escaped with bullet wounds,Ojukwu said.
However, the area has been reinforced while frantic efforts are ongoing to track-down the fleeing hoodlums. Meanwhile, the State Police Command is appealing to members of the public, to report anybody seen with bullet wound, of any sort, to the nearby Police Station or other Security agencies, please.
In another development ,the Inspector-General of Police, Acting IGP Suleiman Abba has directed all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of Zonal Commands, State Command Commissioners of Police and other Police field Commanders to put measures in place so as to put an immediate end to the illegal sale of babies in the country. Ojukwu said this directive came on the heels of recent disturbing trends involving the selling of babies within and outside the country especially in some Motherless Baby’s Homes across the country,
While reiterating that all the Motherless Babies Homes and Centres in their respective domains should be properly monitored so as to nip in the bud the trafficking of babies within and outside the country, the IGP directed that all Police personnel should be thoroughly lectured on this subject.
The IGP therefore called on the members of the public to furnish the Police with the
necessary information that will help in addressing this heinous crime.
