Kulu Shagari Girl-Child Initiative, the Foundation of the wife of former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari, has donated food items and other utilities to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sokoto.
Inaugurating the distribution on Thursday in Sokoto, the Founder, Hajiya Kulu Shagari, said the initiative was part of her efforts to ease the suffering of the IDPs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the items distributed to the IDPs include, Indomie noodles, sanitary pads, detergents, clothing materials, shoes, among others.
Shagari, the daughter of Second Republic President, late Alhaji Shehu Shagari, said the current situation required more commitment by all wealthy individuals by supporting to ease the pains of the IDPs.
“We have been doing this for quite some time because we realised that there is no better time to assist the less privileged than now.
“The victims are facing a lot of hardship due to the prevailing economic and security challenges in the country,” she said.
She appealed to wealthy individuals to emulate the gesture.
Responding, Malam Salisu Wanzam, one of the leaders of the IDPs commended Shagari for identifying with them.
Wanzam said that the camp consists of people displaced from Gundumi Village in Goronyo Local Government area of the state. (NAN)
