Media practitioners have been called upon to be promoters of peace and unity through their reportage in order to enhance solid development in the country.

Mr Emmanuel Ifesinachi, the Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South-East Zone, made the call during the end of the year celebration of Anambra State Correspondents Chapel.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Thursday in Awka that Ifesinachi charged journalists to always abide by the ethics of the profession in their activities.

He promised to use his new position as the leader of journalists in the South-East to reposition various councils of the union for enhanced productivity.

Ifesinachi said that with factual and speedy reportage always, the country would be peaceful and united to plan and develop, measuring up with the western world.

In his remarks, Mr Chukwujekwu Ilozue, Chairman, Anambra State Correspondents Chapel, urged members to hold dearly their responsibility of reporting.

Ilozue advised  journalists to avoid acts capable of bringing the profession to ridicule, and to report professionally to make the public gain more confidence in their reports.

He charged journalists to always cross check their stories before publishing them and to shun any form of bickering that may destablise the chapel.

He commended the host, Mr Obini Onuchukwu, whom he described as a man with golden heart, for annually playing host to members of the chapel.

While thanking all the members in attendance, he advised journalists to be more prepared to report events as they unfold during the festive period.

Mr Abuchi Nwozor, member of NUJ and Manager News of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, described NUJ as the primary constituency of all practicing journalists.

He called on the practitioners to desist from reports capable of causing confusion in the society and  to always keep fit by engaging in routine medical checkups.

Nwozor promised to support programmes and policies that will reposition the state council. (NAN)
