The Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, Bishop of Abuja Diocese and Primate of All Nigeria Anglican Communion, on Monday urged Christians to be moderate in the celebration of Christmas and New Year festivals.
The Primate, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, cautioned against taking loan or borrowing just to celebrate during the yuletide.
He reminded Christians that after the celebrations, there would be school fees to pay, rents to renew, food to buy and other necessities.
“We have to bear in mind that there are responsibilities waiting for us in 2022; fees, house rents and other bills,” the primate added.
The cleric, therefore, advised Christians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ, who was very contented, moderate and disciplined.
According to him, Christmas is about godliness, as such people should strive to be righteous, rather than engaging in wastages and extravagant lifestyles that could lead them to debt.
“Godliness and contentment is a virtue, the festive period is not a time to cut corners, steal and kill.
“I want to encourage Nigerians to live within their means, we don’t need to plunder in order to celebrate God’s life and mercy on us.
“The Kingdom of God is not of eating and drinking, neither is the celebration for that. We are to be in a sober and self reflections as we prepare ourselves to receive Christ and usher in the new year,” Ndukuba said.
He encouraged people to share what they have and show love to those who have little, as well as emulate Jesus Christ’s virtue of humbleness, discipline, love and contentment. (NAN)
