Niger to resettle 13 communities affected by flood

The Commissioner of Lands and Housing in Niger state has disclosed that the state Government has commended the construction of a resettlement site to resettle 13 communities affected by flood. 

Briefing newsmen in Minna, the Commissioner said that the people of Muregi and other surrounding villages are constantly being affected by flood which is the reason for government decision to give them to the new Muregi resettlement site. 

“The intention of government is to get the place ready before the next rains so that the villagers can move from the flood planes. After New Muregi, we will move to Ketso the community of the state deputy governor which as you know was affected by flood.”

He said that provisions have been made for adequate water, electricity and good road to make the people feel comfortable in the resettlement site. 

He said that work will soon begin in the Muregi resettlement site which would be called New Muregi adding that the new site would be ready before the 2019 rainy season. 

Kanko however did not disclose how much the project would cost the government but said officials of the ministry were already on the ground in New Muregi to carryout survey and put up a master plan.
