Former Director of the National Planning Commission, Nazifi Abdullahi Darma has disclosed that over 8000 projects have been abandoned by the federal government nationwide.
Darma, who is a lecturer of Economics at the University of Abuja said over five trillion naira would be needed for the completion of these abandoned projects.
He made this known while speaking at a workshop on entrepreneurship in tertiary education curriculum organised by the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai in Minna.
The University Don revealed that a recent survey of teams from the National Commission on some projects by the federal government showed that states and local governments were not aware of such projects being undertaken in their domain.
He then lamented that lack of synergy and collaboration between the federal government and the states and local governments where the projects were sighted have been part of the problem why they have not been completed.
Darma called on the federal government to ensure that it formulates a national policy on innovation while advocating for special fund for the funding of innovative idea.
The Vice Chancellor of the IBBU, Professor Ibrahim Kolo in his address said that the spirit of entrepreneurship must be inculcated in students towards making them self reliant after graduation.
