Senatorial Aspirant, Kaduna Central,Uba Sani has hailed his supporters in the All Progressive Congress, APC for struggling to ensure a level playing field in the coming primaries.
Sani who had initially been excluded from the race by the Adams Oshiomhole-led national exco of the party has now been cleared to contest in the primaries for Kaduna central senatorial race.
In a statement issued on Friday,Uba Sani said: “The last few days have been trying. These are moments that have tested our resolve and fidelity to democratic values. The unlawful exclusion of myself and others aspirants from the list of those cleared to participate in the senatorial primaries for Kaduna Central shocked and disappointed us. Together with our party members, we protested the unlawful attempt to foist one candidate on our Senatorial District without a democratic contest. Today, our party, the APC, has upheld the tenets of inclusion and has insisted on democratic primaries as the mode of selecting its candidates for the 2019 general elections. We welcome this fresh embrace of democratic tenets.
“Today marks a victory for democratic values. I give gratitude to Almighty Allah. And most humbly thank the teeming members of the APC in Kaduna Central Senatorial District for the overwhelming support they provided through these trying times.
“I have always been impressed by the political sophistication of our members, their sense of loyalty to the party and their commitment to fairness. This week, our members displayed an admirable spirit of solidarity, uniting to defend democratic values and firmly rejecting the attempt to unfairly impose a candidate on them. The people of Kaduna Central have robustly displayed their democratic credentials. We thank them for standing up for what is right.
“I cannot thank our members and supporters enough for standing by us, and fighting with us to get the national leadership to uphold the constitution and the rules of fairness. I will remember and cherish this moment, because you showed that in politics there are people committed to decency.
“Now that our right to participate in the primary election has been restored, I ask once again for your votes to enable me to be selected as the candidate of the APC in Kaduna Central Senatorial District. Let us complete what we have started so that we can give the people of Kaduna Central disciplined, loyal and productive representation in the Senate.
“Please let us make the primary election a peaceful festival of democracy,” Sani said.
