A 38-year old suspect, Jamilu Abdullahi has died in the custody of Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Commandant of the Command, Bello Musa has said.
Confirming the tragedy to news men on Monday, he disclosed that the Command had set up a committee to investigate remote cause(s) of the death of Abdullahi.
“I can confirm the death of the deceased. He was arrested by operatives of the Corps at the Sokoto South local government Division in Sokoto, following a complaint lodged by his neighbour,” Musa said.
He however denied the speculation that staff of the Corps had killed the suspect. “It is untrue that personnel of the corps killed him however, the ongoing investigations will reveal the cause of his death. Any officer who might be indicted by the ongoing investigations will face the wrath of the law.”
Musa stated that one Amina Mohammed had lodged a complaint against the deceased, who was arrested as a result.
Newsdiaryonline reports that the corpse of the deceased is being kept at the morgue of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH, Sokoto.
Binta Abdullahi, mother of the deceased told Newsdiaryonline that Abdullahi, a graduate of College of Agriculture, Bakura, Zamfara state, was the bread-winner of the family.
She added that once the report of the autopsy is released, the family would accept the corpse.
