Sokoto govt to appoint desk officers for physically challenged students

The Sokoto State Government on Wednesday disclosed plans to establish desk offices and appoint officials to handle matters affecting the physically challenged students in tertiary institutions in the state.

Mr Abdulaziz Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Physically Challenged Persons, stated this in Sokoto during an interactive session with such students studying in all tertiary institutions in the state.

He said desk officers would be appointed to serve as liaison for authorities, groups and individuals on physically challenged students’ matters including providing supports and knowing their plights and needs.

The special adviser noted that a comprehensive census of physically challenged students had been conducted by his office in order provide more supports towards enhancing their living conditions.

He commanded Gov. Tambuwal and the state assembly members for enacting the Persons with Disability Law, appointment of Special Adviser Office as well as other friendly policies in the state.

According to him, Tambuwal administration ensures that physically challenged persons benefit from scholarships, business empowerment supports and payment of monthly stipends to less-privileged persons across the state.

In his remark, the Sokoto State Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, reiterated state government’s commitment to executing polices  friendly to physically challenged persons at all levels.

Muhammad said passage of persons with disability law in the state had demonstrated government determination towards enhancing physically challenged persons wellbeing.

Member representing Tureta, DangeShuni and Bodinga Federal Constituency, Dr Balarabe Kakale, assured more support to the physically challenged students and other persons.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the interaction was attended by dignitaries and witnessed question and answer session on issues of physically challenged students including transportation, accessibility to facilities and others. (NAN)
