Augustine Gabu, Acting Rector, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, has threatened to prosecute any student involved in cultism.
The rector said this on Monday during the institution’s 2017/2018 matriculation ceremony in Lafia.
He said that the polytechnic had zero tolerance for cultism, adding that any student caught would not only be expelled but would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
He advised the newly admitted students who were members of cult groups before gaining admission to renounce such membership in their own interest to avoid sanction.
He also warned the students against any form of protest that could result in damage to the polytechnic’s property.
“We would bring into full force the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of students against perpetrators of destruction of our properties. Anyone caught involved in examination malpractice, stealing, fighting would also be expelled,” he added.
The rector, however, explained that only 1,001 candidates, comprising 901 National Diploma and 100 Higher National Diploma students, were admitted out of 4, 000 that applied to the polytechnic.
He commended Gov. Umaru Al-Makura for building the first set of hostel accommodation since the polytechnic was established 18 years ago. (NAN)
