Police nab 16 suspected cultists in Delta

#TrackNigeria: The Delta Police Command on Tuesday arrested 16 suspected cultists in Ogwashi Uku community.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogwashi Uku Division, Tobi Debakeme confirmed that the suspects had been terrorizing the community and its environs.

He disclosed that the suspects were arrested by officers of the anti-cultism unit of the station after a close-to-an-hour gun battle with them in the forest.

“Upon the arrest of the suspects, and interrogation, they confessed to be members of Arubaggar and Aiye Confraternities. They have been involved in many robberies, killings in the areas in the recent times.

“The officers engaged them in a gun duel and two of the suspects were injured but escaped with bullet wounds. The suspects will be charged to court after investigation,” the DPO said.

Meanwhile, operatives of SARS attached to the state command arrested two armed robbers who allegedly attacked one Famous Faghola around Akah Avenue in Effurun at gun point and made away with his Lexus 250.

The Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovuwakpoyeya in a statement issued Tuesday said SARS intensified manhunt for the suspects led to their arrest on Monday evening in Warri.

Items recovered include a car, six other vehicles, one locally made single barrel gun, nine live cartridges with 20 rounds of live ammunition.

Onovuwakpoyeya however assured citizens of Delta that the Command was committed to protecting their lives and properties.
