Petroleum Minister , NNPC GMD Mourn Rilwanu Lukman

Rilwanu LukmanThe Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Engr. Andrew Yakubu, have expressed shock and a deep sense of loss at the death of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Rilwanu Lukman.
Alison-Madueke who described Dr. Lukman as an exemplary statesman stated that the death of Dr. Lukman was a personal loss to her as he was her immediate predecessor as Minister of Petroleum Resources.
“It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss that I and the entire Management and Staff of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources received the sad news of the passing of Dr. Rilwanu Lukman, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources and former President and Secretary-General of the OPEC,” Alison-Madueke stated.
While expressing her condolences to the family of Dr. Lukman, the Minister stated that: “Our dear country and the Global Petroleum Industry have lost an astute diplomat, a seasoned technocrat, and a trailblazer, who achieved many firsts in his lifetime”.
In a similar vein, the GMD of NNPC, Engr. Andrew Yakubu, has expressed grief at the passing of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources which he described as “a monumental loss to the global the oil and gas industry and to Nigeria as a country”.
In a condolence letter to the family of the former Secretary General of OPEC, Yakubu stated that NNPC would miss Lukman’s forthrightness and candour.
Dr. Lukman, in a career that spanned five decades was Minister of Mines, Power and Steel (1984 -1985); Minister of Petroleum Resources (1986 -1989, 2008 -2010); Minister of Foreign Affairs (1989-1990); Chairman, Board of Directors of the National Electric Power Authority (1993 -1994); and Presidential Adviser on Petroleum and Energy Matters to the Federal Government of Nigeria (2000 – 2003); and Chairman, Board of Directors of NNPC (1986 -1989, 2008 -2010).
