Suspected irate youths in Owhode quarters in Oyebru community of Jesse Ethiope West local government area of Delta have allegedly killed the head of the community, Chief Hausa Akpoviroro and injured his son, Edward Akpoviroro over the discovery of oil well in there.
Our reporter gathered that shortly after the discovery of the oil well, the suspected youths asked the Chief to be in charge of negotiations with the oil company that would explore oil.
An eyewitness, Oghenemaro Kelvin told our reporter that during the fight, those at the scene fled.
Newsdiaryonline further gathered that heated argument ensued, as a result of which the community head was struck with iron weapons on the head.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovuwakpoyeya confirmed the killing of the community head.
He said that efforts of the son of the late community head, Akpoviroro to wade into the crisis failed because he was also injured.
Onovuwakpoyeya assured that the culprits would be arrested and prosecuted.
