Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo says golf is a game of life because it tests one’s endurance, fitness and ability to face life challenges with determination and ability to always overcome.
The governor said this during a “birthday surprise’’ tournament held on Friday at the Benin Golf Court to celebrate the birthday of his deputy, Philip Shaibu.
Obaseki said golf is a game that requires a lot of mental participation and it had all sorts of element which determine the performance of golfers.
“The game is not restricted to the rich. In the U.S. and other parts of the world, the game of golf is played by all, irrespective of their financial status. It is not meant for the rich alone.’’
On the celebration of Shaibu’s birthday, Obaseki wished him more accomplishment in his new age.
“For us, it is about good health and happiness and making sure one accomplished the purpose of God for one’s life.’’
The deputy governor, while reacting, expressed delight at the surprises he had continued to receive from people regarding his birthday, thanking God for his mercy.
“My birthday coincides with the International World AIDS Day. For me today is a day to remind people to take care of their health and show love to those living with the disease to enable them live a more fulfilled life, knowing that they are loved.’’(NAN)
