#TrackNigeria: The Chief Missioner of Nasruahil-l-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike, has called on Muslims not to engage anything that would undermine the peace of the nation, during and after the general elections.
Onike made the call in an interview on Tuesday in Lagos.
He also urged Muslims to advise their wards and children not to foment trouble during campaigns and elections.
“No member should engage in thuggery, election violence or anything that will undermine the peace of the nation and by extension, tarnishing the image of Islam and NASFAT.
“Members are to conduct themselves honourably before, during and after elections.
“We should remember Quran teaching that says, do no mischief on the earth after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts):
“The Mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good,” he said.
Onike further urged Muslims to ensure that they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and exercise their civic duties in the forthcoming elections.
“Elections are our opportunities to decide who should be in power and who would be elected, therefore, it is important that everyone gets his or her Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“Everyone has one or two comments about our leaders, but our comments will be better utilised if we all get our PVCs.
“It is also important that we look carefully at those who we want to vote into power; look at their antecedents and do a background check on them.
“Let us also pray for those who are in office to do it right and those who intend to come to have the right spirit, as we prepare for the elections.”
The Chief Missioner also urged Missioners to dedicate five minutes of “undistracted commitment ‘at Sunday Asalatu and and Friday Tahajjud (Prayer Vigil), for peaceful general elections in the country. (NAN)
