Alhaji Bala Lawal, the new chairman of Gusau Depot chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has queried the continued lack of petroleum products at the NNPC Depot in Gusau, Zamfara state.
He spoke in Sokoto during the inauguration of the 14-member executives.
“The facility has become a clearing depot now since products were not being pumped to it from the Kaduna refinery,” he said ,explaining that “This is why there is the recurring scarcity of petroleum products in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, which the Depot is supposed to be serving.”
Lawal lamented that most marketers in the three states have resorted to sourcing the products from Lagos, Warri or Port Harcourt.
He called on federal government to ensure that the Kaduna refinery operated fully, observing that “this is the only way to make the products available in the area.”
IPMAN national President, Obasi Lawson, represented by his Special Adviser, Alhaji Faruk Maiturare, commended the consensus approach employed during the election of the new leaders.
The Sokoto Zonal Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Umaru Moriki, also represented by a Chief Technical Officer, Kaka Sheikh vowed to ensure that the available products were dispensed to the motorists according to the law.
“We will ensure that motorists get value for their money as well as ensure compliance with the law by the marketers,” he promised.
The 14-member new exco of the Association has Alhaji Bala Lawal as Chairman and Alhaji Aliyu Longman as Secretary.
