President President Sheriff Namajo of Guinea Bissau and Nigeria’s Vice President Namadi Sambo have held a meeting in Makkah Saudi Arabia. It was part of meetings on the platform of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in which Sambo was representing President Goodluck Jonathan in Makkah from the 14th to the 15th of August 2012.A statement from the vice president’s office said at the instance of the President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, a meeting was held at the Makkah Royal Palace Hotel between the duo.
President Namajo while thanking the Vice President for agreeing to receive him at short notice used the occasion to extol Nigeria and President Goodluck Jonathan over the friendly nature their citizens are being treated by Nigeria.
He noted that but for the exigencies of work, he was ought to have been in Abuja so as to Personally extend his warm regards and well wishes to the government and good people of Nigeria from his country and to thank Nigeria for their continuous assistance and support to his country, noting that he was proud of Nigeria.
In his response the Vice President assured President Sheriff that Nigeria would continue to support Guinea Bissau to enable President Sheriff, discharge his constitutional duties to his people.
He promised to convey his message to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of his intention to come and pay him a visit to enable him thank Nigeria for the gesture to the Guinea Bissau Republic. He prayed God to accept their supplication in the holy month of Ramadan and wished him journey mercies home.
Present at the meeting were the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada, Minister of State II Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Bunu and other top government officials.
