FUTA’s Department of Urban & Regional Planning Adjudged Best in Nigeria

futa full-logo 600 newThe Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has been adjudged the best school of urban and regional planning in Nigeria for the year 2013. The verdict was given by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC.

In a letter of notification conveying the development, the Registrar of the Council, Town Planner I. M. Yunusa said TOPREC, the statutory body mandated to among others determine standards of knowledge, training and skills by persons seeking to become members of the urban and regional planning profession in Nigeria ,has determined that for the year 2013 accreditation exercise ,FUTA’s Urban and Regional Planning Department, School of Environmental Technology “ is the best in the league of accredited Schools.”

The award, which is instituted by the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC) of Nigeria, will be conferred on the University and received by the Vice Chancellor on Thursday, 17th July, 2014 in Abuja at the 27th Induction Ceremony of newly registered Town Planners.
Reacting to the development the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola, said it underscored the excellence that FUTA has come to be known for in all departments and schools. He reiterated the determination of the University Management to ensure that all academic programmes remain top of the range and the best in the country and beyond.
