Suicide bombers detonated explosives in a car at police check point on Monday.Eight persons were killed in the blast. Five died instantly while three others died at the hospital, the police said.
Toyin Gbadegesin,Yobe Police Command spokesman said police men apprehended two vehicles suspected to be laden with explosives.
He added that just as efforts were being made to take the suspect to the state police command, they set off the car bomb killing five people immediately.Bomb experts were invited to defuse other explosive left after the first blast.
Yobe and Borno have been the heart of Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.In fact, the use of minors as suicide bombers has become very frequent and disturbing of late .Only three days ago, a twin bomb blast went off at an eid praying ground ,and one of the suicide bombers was reportedly a minor.
Monday’s explosion occurred just as President Muhammadu Buhari and United States President Barack Obama met in Washington to explore ways of strengthening support in the battle against BokoHaram.The talks are to explore ways of enhancing trade and ecomomic relations.But Monday’s attack reinforces the need for urgent global cooperation to tackle the terrorists.
