Members of dreaded Boko Haram sect on Friday’s night attacked Liman Kara ,a village bordering Adamawa and Borno state, during which they abducted the wife of a retired divisional Police Officer (DPO) his two children, bombing houses as the insurgents also blew up a bridge linking the two states in a desperate bid to deter soldiers pursuing them after it appears that they have fled across the border with some of the abducted schoolgirls.
Locals say that the sect’s fighters had engaged soldiers in a fierce battle that lasted for hours before they destroyed the link bridge between Adamawa and Borno in a bid to ward off their pursuers.
“The affected bridge is a vital one connecting Adamawa with Borno. They burnt our houses, abducted wife of retired DPO and his two children. The fleeing sect members destroyed the bridge in anger to frustrate troops from pursuing them. The damage will not allow armoured vehicles to pass through and their target is to halt the movement of troops across their hideouts in Sambisa.”
‘’They also looted our food stuff and other domestic animals,’’ said a fleeing resident who simple identified himself as Dauda.
Another resident Baba Marcus said that the insurgents blew up the bridge when they were withdrawing from the attack.
‘’They came in over ten vehicles, including armoured tank with others on bikes. The soldiers stationed their who were only about sixteen could not repel them.
‘’The burnt many houses including that of the district head and while withdrawing from the attack they blew up a bid bridge linking Adamawa and Borno,’’ said Baba Marcus.
Reports say that many are feared dead, as even survivors could not give details of the casualty with hundreds fleeing.
When contacted Chairman Madagali local government,t Mr Abawu James Watharda confirmed the attack but could not give details of casualty.
According to him,’’I can’t give the casualty figures but already over 3,000 people have fled the area to Madagali town. They refugees are in need of assistance, they need food and other amenities.’’
Boko Haram sect members had in the recent time raided many villages for food as it could be recalled that only last Wednesday night , the dreaded sect members struck in Kishirnga village of the same area , stealing two herds of cows numbering about 170.
