The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) is in mourning following the passing of Elder Barrister Mrs. Bernadette Eni Edem mni Esq., a prominent member and an elder stateswoman within the association.
Mrs. Edem, who was called to glory on Friday, March 28th, 2025, is remembered as a devoted servant of God, a seasoned legal practitioner, and a dedicated public servant.
Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd), mni fnipr, National Publicity Secretary of AANI, expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the association. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of such an esteemed member. Elder Barrister Mrs. Edem was not just a trailblazer as the first female Member of the National Institute (mni) from Cross River State, but she was also a beacon of service, leadership, and dedication,” he said. “Her legacy will continue to inspire us all, and she will be sorely missed by the AANI family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.”
Mrs. Edem had a distinguished career in public service, retiring as Director of Human Resources at the Police Service Commission after serving in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. Her career spanned several decades, marked by her unwavering commitment to improving the civil service and advancing national development. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and a pioneer for women in public service, particularly in Cross River State.
