A member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Issa Aremu has commiserated with Kwara state government and victims of Offa armed robbery attack in Kwara state.
He said in a statement: “I commiserate with Kwara state government, Olofa of Offa and the good people of Offa, Kwara State over the criminal armed robbery attacks on a number of commercial banks with the attendant killings including policemen and bank customers. The sad incident took place on Thursday April 5, 2018,” he stated.

According to him, the attack reminded of the need for Federal government to secure lives and properties of Nigerian citizens.
“We share the grief of the victims. This singular tragic event is another rude reminder of the urgent need to secure lives and properties in Nigeria. Offa sad event has undermined the ease of doing business as well as ease of living. Nigerian Police Force must fish out the criminals and ensure they face justice. We also call for adequate compensation for the victims of the robbery attack that include policemen,” Aremu advised while suggesting further that the “Offa unfortunate development must task all citizens to stop politicizing security issue.”

He described as politicisation, the recent condemnation of FEC’s approval of $1 billion against insurgency.
“The recent politicization of the approval of $1 billion for the army against Boko Haram insurgency and violent crimes across the country is unnecessary and unhelpful. The point cannot be overemphasized. Our security agencies particularly the Military and the Police must be well equipped to combat criminals in the country. What we must insist on is accountability on the part of all security  agencies for all the resources made available to them,” he stated.

Aremu noted that the best accountability on the part of security agencies was the prevention of the kind of carnage in Offa.
“Also let there be sanctions against non-performing security agencies while there should be reward for all security agencies that protect lives and properties. Nigeria should break the paradox of many national and state leaders but little security for the citizens.

“It is unacceptable that Nigeria lacked governance with respect to security of lives and properties as contained in 1999 constitution. Without an official declaration of war, Nigerians daily die in the hands of armed robbers and criminals,” he noted.
