The Kano state government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Friday, distributed relief items to 160 households affected by the flood disaster.
The relief items were donated by the Federal Government and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to support victims of the 2024 flood disaster in the state.
Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, said this at the inauguration of the relief items distribution exercise in Kano.
Represented by Alhaji Wada Sagagi, the Chief of Staff, Government House Kano, Kabir-Yusuf lauded the gesture.
He assured that the government would continued to assist victims of the floods and natural disasters in the state.
The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, said the gesture was part of the federal government’s interventions to alleviate the sufferings of the flood affected persons.
Umar, who was represented by Nura Abdullahi, the Coordinator, NEMA Kano Territorial Office, said the gesture was not meant to compensate the victims over their losses, rather a gesture to help them recover from the devastation.
“Kano state was selected for the relief intervention due to the high number of affected persons, and the urgency and severity of the need among flood victims.
“The UAE Embassy donated 160 cartons of humanitarian relief items. The package consists of 20 assorted food items including rice, salt, wheat flour, Quaker oats, oil, among others,” she said.
Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, enjoined the beneficiaries to utilise the items to fend for their family needs.
One of the beneficiaries, Asabe Ibrahim, commended the gesture, adding that it would go a long way to cushion the effects of the disaster. (NAN
