Gov Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state has urged the Sokoto State independent Electoral Commission to try and improve in the conduct of elections.

He stated this shortly after casting his vote at the Magajin Rafi model Primary school polling centre in Tudun Wada ‘A’ of Sokoto South Local Government Area.

The Governor, who commended the large turn out of voters at the polls, said the state independent electoral commission needs to improve.

He also commended the security arrangements made in all the polling centres, which he said, has made the voting process much easier.

“The turn out of the voters in today’s election is a clear indication of the people’s acceptance of my style of leadership and i commend them for that,” the elated Gov. Aliyu added.

Responding to a question from journalists on the recent Supreme Court’s verdict on the local government autonomy., the governor described it as a welcome developement.

“The local government autonomy has come to stay in the country and would fast-track the needed development of the country.

‘”I want to assure you that in Sokoto State, we would ensure total compliance with the apex court’s verdict.

“In fact, the local government autonomy is one of my 9-point smart agenda for the state.

“So, it is in our roadmap even before the apex court’s verdict,”he averred

Governor Aliyu also appealed to those that would win the race to accept it as a victory from God, diligently and piously serve the electorate in return.

” I want the would-be winners to see their victory as a call to give in their best to the development of their respective communities, ” he admonished.

Governor Aliyu also appealed to the would-be losers to also take it in good faith and join hands with the winners in the overall interest of the state.

He also appealed to the people of the state to continue to rally round the present administration in its effort to transform the state.
