A group in Kogi State known as SAS Frontiers, has urged former governor of the state and leader of the All Progressives Congress[APC], Prince Audu Abubakar, to join the race for the next governorship election in the state which comes up in October or November this year.
The group which is mainly made up of supporters of APC asked Prince Abubakar Audu to declare his interest in the governorship election without any further delay..
The SAS Frontiers, in a statement signed by its leader, Abubakar Kaka Ede,and distributed to media houses in Abuja on Sunday, said Kogi State citizens feel that the time is ripe for him to lead the state and rekindle hope and its lost glory..
According to the statement, Prince Audu who lead the state between 1998-2003, was credited with massive infrastructural development ranging from Education, Health care, Roads and Housing.
Ede said what is required now, “is a decisive, strong, disciplined ,respected and influential leader that can attract massive developments to the state especially now that we have a strong, honest and respected president in person of our dear Gen Buhari that the entire World respect”.
He added that “It is only Prince Audu candidature that can wrestle power from PDP, this will bring lots of commitments and support to the APC and thousands of kogi State people who are apolitical will throw their weights behind APC because of their trust and confidence in the person of Prince Audu.”
The group’s leader also berated some leaders within the party who are opposed to Audu coming back because what he called “their selfishness and greed, not minding the interest and wellbeing of the generality of the people”.
It could be recalled that since he lost the 2003 governorship election in the state, Audu has also contested for the same position for about three times in the recent past without winning. However, with the sterling performance of the APC in the just concluded National and states elections in Kogi State, the party members and leaders alike, are optimistic that the party will triumph in the October/November Governorship poll.
Audu has also made it public that he would be interested in running for Governorship election in the state again this year. Speaking on this issue last week when he visited the President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in his Asokoro home, Abuja,Audu told journalists that he would contest for the governorship election later this year. Asked if he ill run for the position, the former Governor said, “ by the special grace of God, I will. But I am the type of person who does not want to tell people he will be a day after but by the special grace of God, I will contest the governorship election”.
He pointed out that by its performance at the last elections, APC has become the party to beat in Kogi State and boasted that there will be no trace of the Peoples Democratic Party[PDP], in the state by the time the governorship election holds later this year, given the massive defection of PDP leaders into his party since after the general elections.
