The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto state netted a total of 13,273 supporters of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Wurno and Rabah local governments of the state.
During its electioneering that took place simultaneously in Wurno and Rabah towns on Thursday, 7,401 and 5,872 PDP supporters defected to the APC.
The APC governorship candidate in the state, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal received the defectors saying that the APC represented the hope of Nigerians in their quest for a responsible and responsive government.
He promised that the party would provide good governance, which was lacking in the PDP administration.
One of the defectors, who was the Wurno local government secretary, Alhaji Shehu Achida said that “lack of concern for the plight of the people is responsible for the defection of 10 executive members and elders and 5,862 other supporters to the APC.”
Governor Aliyu Wamakko said that “We will continue to provide all that is require to improved on the well-being of our people through good governance.”
In Rabah where 7,401 defected to the APC, Governor Wamakko the people of Rabah had an uncompromising leadership qualities found in the person of late Sir Ahmadu Bello.
“Much would have been achieved if present leaders copied from the exemplary leadership qualities of the sage premier,” Wamakko said.
He added that the unity of the country depended on the present leadership’s inclusive governance, irrespective of tribe, religion, ethnic and political differences.
He advised the people not to succumb the temptation of selling their permanent voters cards (PVCs.
A grandson of the late Premier who was one of the defectors in Rabah, Alhaji Yarima Rahah said that the APC has similar political ideals with that of their late grand father.
