Court remands 2 men for alleged armed robbery

An FCT High Court in Kubwa, on Monday remanded Umar Salisu and Maruk Zuberu in a correctional centre for alleged armed robbery.

The police charged the defendants with conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of firearms.

Justice Bello Kawu adjourned the case until April 7 for hearing.

The defence counsel, John Ukeyu had earlier told the court that he has a bail application for his clients.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Gabriel Adeosun told the court that the defendants and others at large, armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons on March 29, 2020 robbed Mr Mark Akwashiki of his Blackberry cell phone worth N48, 000 and ”Hublo” wristwatch worth N45, 000 on the said date at Mpape, Abuja.

He further said the defendants also attacked Mr Akolo Jatau and robbed him of three cell phones and N6, 500 cash.

The offence he said, is punishable under the provisions of sections 6 (a)(c) and 1(2) (b) of Robbery and Firearm Act Cap. R11 LFN 2004

The defendants pleaded not guilty.(NAN)
