Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory  (FCT) Command, has deployed 3,000 personnel to provide security in the territory during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command`s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Comfort Okomanyi, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Okomanyi quoted the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Peter Maigari, as saying that the deployment was aimed at protecting the residents and the nation’s critical assets.

Maigari urged residents to exercise caution and be vigilant while celebrating, saying that they should report any act of criminality or suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities for further action.

“The corps will not relent in its efforts at ensuring that the Federal Government’s national asset is protected from vandalism across the FCT.

“A 21-year jail term without an option of fine awaits anyone caught in the act of vandalising national property,” he said.

The commandant said that the corps was working closely with other security agencies to ensure that residents celebrated the festive season without any fear of insecurity.

He said that while maintaining peace and order, citizens should comply strictly with all COVID-19 laid down rules and regulations. (NAN)
