The Deputy Governor of Niger, Alhaji Ahmed Ketsu, has urged Police Mobile Units deployed to the state to fight banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other criminal activities to demonstrate high level of professionalism in their operations.
Kestsu made the call on Thursday while addressing four units of Mobile Police officers at 12 Squadron Minna, before their deployment to various flash points across the state.
” We are fully prepared to give you all the necessary support to enable you to implement all your security strategies that will ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those involved.
” We want to introduce stringent security measures that will deal with any form of security challenges facing our people at Shiroro,Munya,Magama,Paiko and Rafi local government areas.
“We have already mobilised local government chairmen, traditional and religious leaders in mobilising residents to volunteer reliable and credible information about dubious characters in their midst.
Kestsu also cautioned the media to be professional in their reportage of the ongoing fight against banditry and kidnapping in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adamu Usman, said that Mobile Police units would compliment the efforts of the personnel in the ongoing fight against banditry and kidnapping in the state.
” We will ensure full restoration of peace and security as well as dislodging of all bandits from their current operational bases in the state.
” We will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to guarantee a secure and safer environment across the state,”Usman said.
He said major achievements had been recorded in the state through the combined efforts of the State Government and the police and sister agencies.
He assured that the police would continue to do all within their powers to guarantee a stable security order across the state.
The commissioner, however, said that the police could not do it alone, no matter how trained, equipped or motivated, without the support of the community that they were engaged to serve.
He, therefore, appealed to traditional, religious leaders, development associations and market associations to support the officers deployed to ensure successful operations.( NAN)
