The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has expressed its sadness and shock over the death of Comrades Adolphous Okonkwo, National Financial Secretary; Kafayat Odunsi of the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA Lagos; and Tunde Ojenike, chairman of Radio Nigeria Chapel Ibadan all in a ghastly motor accident.
In a statement , Secretary of the Council, Emmanuel Ogbeche, said the chairman of the NUJ FCT, Comrade Chuks Ehirim and the entire journalists community in Abuja were distraught by the unfortunate incident.
The statement quoted Ehirim as saying that the profession has lost some “credible and inspiring leaders who worked tirelessly for the good of the profession,” stressing that the deceased would be sorely missed.
Ehirim used the opportunity to call on journalists across the country especially in the FCT to key into the insurance policy of the union as death does not signal when it would come, while praying God to grant the families of the dead the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He also prayed for the quick recovery of others in the fatal crash especially Mrs. Fatimah Abdulkareem, National Treasurer and Deji Elumoye, chairman Lagos Council, who is said to be in critical condition.
Furthermore, Comrade Victorson Agbenson, chairman FRCN NUJ Chapel Abuja, in a statement prayed “that the Good Lord would comfort us all at this trying period of the fall of some of our dear comrades,” noting that the reforms for which they came to Abuja would be achieved as a tribute to their memories.
