Wife of Bayelsa Governor, Mrs Rachel Dickson, on Wednesday visited 2018 Christmas Day baby in the state and presented cash and baby-care items.
The baby, a male, which weighed 3.6 kilogrammes, was delivered at 12.24 a.m. at Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The baby, first on the day, was born by Mrs Nimizi of Asamabiri town in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
Presenting the gifts to the baby at the hospital, Mrs Dickson advised pregnant women to always attend ante-natal clinic.
She charged the parents of the baby to raise him with the fear of God.
She commended the management and staff of the hospital for dedication to saving lives “even in festive time”.
Dickson, who paid the hospital bills of the baby, also gave cash gifts to other babies and patients at the hospital.
Responding, father of the baby, Mr John Nimizi, expressed gratitude to the governor’s wife for the visit, love and benevolence toward to his family.
Earlier, Dr Judith Adhuze, head of the medical team that delivered the baby, had commended Gov. Seriake Dickson and the wife for the Safe Maternal and Child Care Initiative of the state government.
She said that the monthly stipend of N3, 000 paid to expectant mothers in the state had greatly increased the number of mothers attending ante-natal clinics across the state.
The governor’s wife was accompanied by the Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs Martha Janakumo and her counterpart of Empowerment and Social Welfare, Mrs Faith Opene.
Also on the entourage were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Mrs Ebiere Adele and Woman Leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mrs Eunice Akene. (NAN)
