The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry, Lagos has assured women in the border town of active participation in governance if candidates of the party are elected in the coming general elections.

The State Deputy Chairman of APC, Chief Sunny Ajoseh, made the promise on Sunday during the 2nd Edition of Badagry Women Development Forum (BWDF) in Badagry.

The theme of the event was: “Putting Smiles on Badagry Women’s Face for New Year’’.

“We are feeling the impact of women in politics and we want them to be impacted in governance too,’’ Ajoseh said.

He said that it was sad that some women believe that it was only during campaigns and elections that they were remembered and that after the elections, they would be dumped.

Ajoseh said: “There is no way APC can succeed in elections without active participation of our women.

“The party has agreed to involve women in all its activities. Therefore, the era of use and dump is over.

“Women cannot be used and dumped in APC any longer.

“Recently, the newly-constituted Reconciliation Committee of the party was disapproved by the leadership of the party, because they were all men.

“We said women must be involved. You have to bring in women.’’

He also told the women that in the next five years, the coastal city would develop rapidly, saying that they should be prepared for this development.

Ajoseh, however, urged members that lost out during the party’s primaries in 2018 to forget the past and work for the victory of the party in the coming elections.

“I want to implore you to work for the victory of the party from national, state to grassroots levels.

“Many aspirants contested for few posts. As you are all aware, seven aspirants cannot represent the party from a constituency.

“You can imagine when we have 233 aspirants contesting for just 40 posts in the State House of Assembly. What will happen to other members?

“The members had chosen their candidates and party leadership had approved them.

“We all, as members of APC, have to work for the party and not the candidates in person.

“We have to make sacrifice for the party to win the coming elections,’’ he said.

Also, Olusegun Onilude, the Chairman, Badagry Local Government, said that women were the pillars of the society.

Onilude urged Badagry women to come out in large numbers and cast their votes for APC.

According to him, this is not the time for annoyance but to forget their grievances and work for the party to succeed in the election.

Solomon Olatunde, the Chairman, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, (LCDA) also urged women in Badagry to campaign for the party from house to house.

In her remarks, Mrs Sewede Pot-Balogun, the Principal Coordinator, BWDF, thanked the leadership of APC and women from the three local councils in Badagry for their presence.

Pot-Balogun said the 2019 event was organised to put smile on the faces of women from all the three local governments.

She said that more than 300 different food items would be distributed to women to put smile on their faces.

The coordinator said that the forum was created to lift up women in the town, cooperate with their representatives in politics and to encourage more women in politics. (NAN)
