Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has commissioned the electricity supply line to twenty communities in Gumbi District of Wamakko Local Government in Sokoto State.
A statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani issued on Friday said the supply line, which had been faulty for the past two years, was repaired by the Lawmaker.
Commissioning the supply line, Wamakko, who was represented by the Chairman of Wamakko local government Council, Alhaji Bello Buba Kaurar Kimba said the gesture was “in continuation of my undying desire to further improve the living standard of the people of the entire state.”
Describing electricity as vital and indispensable to the socioeconomic lives of the people, Wamakko appealed to the communities to guard the installations from the nefarious activities of vandals and thieves.
Speaking, the District Head of Wajakke, Alhaji Muhammadu Mailato Gumbi hailed Senator Wamakko for the gesture, adding that residents of the communities had undergone hard experiences following the blackout brought about by the faulty supply line.
The Business Manager, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Sokoto Area Office, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim said the supply line was diverted from the 2.5 MVA it was hitherto located to the 7.5MVA Wamakko town supply line.
The Coordinator of the Wajakke and Gumbi ward, Alhaji Malami Sarkin Rafi expressed optimism that socioeconomic activities would spring up as a result of Senator Wamakko’s gesture.
Two spokesmen of the communities, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Gumbi, the former Vice Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, as well as Alhaji Muntari Yar Abba said that security committees had been set up to guard the installations and all government properties.
The benefiting communities included Gumbi, Barkeji, Baga, Kaurar Malam Garba, Yar Abba, Gidan Bobiri, Kammata, Fanfare, Sabon Garin Arkilla and Gidan Ali,among others.
