As part of activities to mark the 2017 United Nations Day (October 24) and the ongoing capacity-building programs for Ambassadors for Peace and religious scholars, UPF-Nigeria will organize a three-day special
workshop on the UPF Principles of Peace from an Islamic perspective from October 24 – 26, 2017 in Abuja.

According to press release by Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko, Secretary General, Universal Peace Federation – Nigeria, the workshop is designed to engage and empower Ambassadors for Peace and religious scholars who are Muslims, as well as others who are interested in understanding the Islamic perspective on UPF peace education, in order to take active leadership responsibilities in the ongoing nationwide Peace Blessing programs and the Communities for Peace initiative.

The program will empower participants in promoting UPF programs in multicultural communities where Muslims and Christians are dominant. Topics to be covered include General Introduction to Peace Principles, Principle of Creation, Principle of Restoration, Root Causes of Conflict, Principle of Reconciliation, Marriage and Family Peace Blessing, and practical guidelines on holding Peace Blessing programs in local communities.

Oko said  the opening session will feature a special commemoration of the 2017 United Nations Day and a discussion of the UPF founder’s speech on “Renewing the United Nations to Build Lasting Peace” as well as the message of the UN secretary-general to commemorate the anniversary of
the founding of the UN.

The workshop will be a residential program for most participants. A certificate of participation will be issued to participants who attend all the sessions. Some VIPs may be designated as Ambassadors for Peace at the opening and closing sessions.

He disclosed that the  workshop will be held at the conference hall of Bayelsa State Guest House, Plot 1038, Shehu Shagari Way, near the Federal Ministry of Justice Maitama, Abuja, Nigeria. He urged interested participants  to  contact UPF Nigeria via email nigeria@upf.org to register for participation.
