It was a day of yet another round of explosions as two suicide bombers struck in Maiduguri blowing themselves up on Wednesday.The explosions occurred even as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paid a surprise visit to the embattled city from Abuja.
Quoting a military source, Reuters said “the blasts injured two people and happened at about 11.30 a.m. (1030 GMT) near the gates of a hospital where suicide bombers killed three people and injured 16 last Saturday
“The second blast occurred two minutes after the first one, killed the bomber and injured two other people nearby,” Mohammed Haruna who assisted some of the victims told Reuters.
News of the vice president’s surprise visits had made round earlier in the day and many observers were impressed by the development.
The explosions occurred far away from the IDP camp where the VP visited .
Maiduguri is the epicenter of Boko Haram insurgency.President Muhammadu Buhari’s first official pronouncement during his inauguration on May 29 was to order the relocation of the military command centre in the battle against the terrorists from Abuja to Maiduguri.
The order is already being complied with, the military has said.
