The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of Sokoto State University (SSU), Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir has called on new students of the Institution to be disciplined and abide by the University rules.
He said this on Tuesday during the 6th matriculation and Oath-taking ceremony of 2074 students admitted for the 2018/2019 academic session.
According to him, “Matriculation is an oath-taking event that prepares you to abide by the rules of the University. It is an initiation to be serious personalities in the society.
“By this event, you have agreed to be molded in character and learning. You are to note that there will be no degree without good character. And engaging in examinations malpractices and other vices will not help you in attaining what you are here for,” Abdulkadir said.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sani M. Dangoggo stated that 2,074 new students were admitted into the University for the academic session.
Of the number, he said, 577 were admitted into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, 450 into the Faculty of Education and 1,047 into the Faculty of Sciences.
He said the institution had signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Zinder in Niger Republic; Islamic University of Uganda, University of Lahore, Pakistan and Kampala International University, Uganda in the areas of staff and students exchange.
Dangoggo disclosed that the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir had facilitated the construction of a solar powered water treatment plant.
“It is a philanthropic support project donated to the University by Belema Aid Foundation and Jack-Rich Tein Jri under the Fresh Water for Our People on Economic Empowerment Initiative,” he stated.
The VC called on the students to be dedicated in their studies, “as degrees are only awarded to hard working and dedicated students.”
He also told them to “shun unethical tendencies such as cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, drug abuse and reckless driving.”
