The Society for Peace, Conflict and Practice on Wednesday conferred its fellowship on the Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu.
Making the conferment at the end of the group’s 12th International Conference and Annual General Meeting held at the NOUN headquarters in Abuja, Prof. Isaac Oluwole, a member of its Board of Trustees, stated in his goodwill message that all the society required from the vice-chancellor was his willingness to contribute to the peace of the country.
According to a statement by the Director, Media and Publicity of the University, Ibrahim Sheme, the society acquired Prof. Adamu’s approval to be the host for the three-day event when its executives paid him a courtesy call recently.
The theme of the conference was “Violent Conflicts and the Challenge of Peace-Building in Contemporary Nigeria”.
During the conferment of the fellowship on the VC, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the society, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, underscored the importance of hosting the conference by the university, which he said has been contributing a large chunk of experts to the field.
Responding, Prof. Adamu expressed delight with the recognition and assured them that the university would start looking at the possibility of establishing a unit at its Olusegun Obasanjo Good Governance and Research Centre.
He said Peace and Conflict Studies and Entrepreneurship are two courses that fetch NOUN more students than any other academic programme.
While giving the vote of thanks, the Registrar of NOUN, Mr Felix Edoka, said the recognition was not just meant for the VC but the university at large.
