Shinkafi challenges varsity as SSU matriculates first set of students

The Sokoto State University on today matriculated the first set of its students numbering 783 admitted for the 2013/2014 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub said at the matriculation that the number was out of the 800 approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Assuring that the management would continue to be transparent, he commended the government of Sokoto State for his commitment which led to the establishment and provision of infrastructure for the university.
Visitor of the University and governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko stated that the university was established to provide educational opportunities especially for the teeming candidates from the state.
Commending governor Wamakko, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi challenged the university authority to strive to meet the needs of its immediate environment.
“Other wealthy individuals in the state and other parts of Nigeria should complement the efforts of the state government by donating to the university,” he said.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and the Emir of Gwandu in Kebbi State, Alhaji Ilyasu Bashar attended the occasion, among other dignitaries.
