The legendary reggae artiste, Ras Kimono is died Sunday morning in Lagos after a very brief illness.
Before his death, Kimono, aged 60 years, became popular for his hit singles, ‘Under pressure’ and ‘We no want’.
He was billed to travel to the United States of America (USA) Saturday night but fell sick and taken to an Ikeja hospital and later to the Lagoon Hospital where he died.
Known as Ekeleke Elumelu from Delta State, Kimono started his music career with the group the Jastix Reggae along with Amos McRoy, Black Rice Osagie and popular singer Majek Fashek (Majekodunmi Fasheke).
He left the group and released his first solo album.
His music was greatly influenced by the poverty, inequality and hardship he witnessed in his early life.
