Police launch Operation Puff Adder, as Tambuwal wants extension of operation to border areas

TrackNigeria: The Nigeria Police on Thursday launched the Operation Puff Adder in Sokoto with Governor Aminu Waziri calling for the extension of the operation to border areas.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Sani Kaoje stated that Puff Adder ‎was launched in the state to check the rising cases of kidnappings, armed banditry and other acts of criminality.

“There is an upsurge in the activities of criminal elements in the commission of armed robbery, banditry, rape, especially ‎along the local local governments and villages, which became worrisome,” Kaoje stated.

Identifying the affected local government areas to include Sabon Birni, Rabah, Tureta, Kebbe and Goronyo, he said the primary objective is to provide adequate security in the areas overwhelmed by the activities of the armed bandits.

He called on Sokoto state government, synergy with sister security agencies, traditional and religious leaders as well as information communication and technology for support ‎and cooperation.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Bashir Garba, ‎Tambuwal called for the extension of the operation to border areas in order to check influx of foreign criminals.

Reacting to a question from our reporter, the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, Muhammad Mustapha said the Force had acquired adequate weapons to be used by Policemen to be deployed to the areas.
