A group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths in Sokoto State on Friday urged party leadership not to give automatic ticket to non-performing lawmakers.
Spokesman of the group, Rabi’u ‘Yarkasuwa, cautioned party leadership on decision to grant automatic tickets to both national and state lawmakers.
‘Yarkasuwa alleged that most of the lawmakers that recently joined PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC) had lost contact with their constituencies and as such they do not deserve automatic ticket.
He added that some of the lawmakers did not sponsor any bill and had no any constituency project to their credit, and decried the attitude of some members at National Assembly who cut off contact from the people since they were elected.
He said that the group represented 52 youth associations from Wurno-Rabah federal constituency.
He noted that “some lawmakers never sponsored a single bill at the National Assembly: never raised a motion on behalf of constituents and never contributed to any issue on national discourse.
“Most of them do not visit their constituents, do not attend functions, had no constituency office and do not answer even phone calls nor reply text messages.”
He, therefore, called for fairness and democratic principles of justice in the party primaries.
The state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, assured that the party would look into the matter and do the needful.
He said “it is an internal problem and we have internal mechanism of addressing issues, so, go home and wait for our decision.” (NAN)
