The Kebbi Urban Development Authority (KUDA) has warned political parties and politicians in the state to stop defacing the government structures with their campaign posters ahead of 2019 elections.

The General Manager of KUDA, Alhaji Malami Shekare, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

He said the authority had already commenced removing and scrapping the illegal posters placed on government buildings.

“We urge the political parties to sensitise their members to the need to desist from pasting posters on public facilities such as buildings, walls, signage and others.

“They should also use bill boards in the rightful places and other legally allowed means to avoid infringement on public rights and parking lots,’’ Shekare urged.

He said KUDA would work closely with the security agencies to ensure that government structures were protected and secured against illegal posters.

According to him, KUDA has been campaigning against illegal pasting of posters through local media as well as other vital political gatherings in the state.

“Posters, flyers and handbills must not be pasted on public utility structures such as street lamp poles, transformers, road directional signs, milestones, electric poles and bridges, etc.”

The general manager said KUDA would meet all the political parties in the state to find a lasting solution against illegal pasting of posters. (NAN)
