Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has reiterated that Islam is a religion of peace and love and not violence or fundamentalism.
A statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, issued to newsmen in Sokoto on Friday said that Wamakko spoke when he received the Global Chief Operations Officer of Wisal Television Channels, Sheikh Taufiq Muhammad Musery, who paid him courtesy call at his Gawon Nama residence. Musery is also one of the Imams of the Holy Mosque in Medina.
Wamakko, who frowned at referring to Muslims as fundamentalists as well as those who perpetrate violence, however expressed happiness that Islam was growing fast, especially in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.
Promising to support the Media outfit to ensure the success of its operations in Nigeria, Wamakko observed that the Hausa service of the Channels “is doing a great job of propagating the Islamic religion, thereby bolstering its growth and development in Nigeria and beyond.”
Earlier, Sheikh Musery, who was in the company of one of Nigeria’s renowned Islamic Cleric, Dr Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto extolled the invaluable contributions of Senator Wamakko to Islam for the past four decades.
Sheikh Musery also underscored the indispensable roles of the media in contemporary global affairs, promising that “the channels would not therefore lag behind.”
